Using
a spray cleaner (i.e. Fantastik®,
Formula 409® or Simple Green®),
clean with a paper towel or a soft rag to remove spills and
dirt. If necessary, a soft scrub brush can be used to remove
imbedded dirt.
Do
not use an abrasive cleaner (i.e. Comet®
or Soft Scrub®)
To remove
ballpoint pen, use Goof Off 2®
and follow with the spray cleaner directions above. Be sure
to use the water-based version (Goof Off 2®)
that comes in an orange squirt bottle.
Another
methods of removing ballpoint pen ink is to mix in a small
cup one (1) part Wisk® liquid
detergent (full strength) with one (1) part rubbing alcohol.
Rubbing alcohol is commonly 70% isopropyl alcohol and 30%
water. wet a small portion of a soft white cloth with the
mixture and apply to the ink stain and blot up the stain.
DO NOT RUB. Rubbing will cause the stain
to spread to a larger area. Blot up the cleaning solution
with a dry cloth. Repeat the cleaning process until the stain
is extracted. For embedded stains, dab a soft or medium bristle
toothbrush in the cleaning solution and gently brush the stain
in a very small swirling motion. As the ink loosens, blot
up the cleaning solution nd ink with a dry cloth, Use as little
solution as possible. Very Important! Rinse
completely and allow to air dry. If all the soap is not removed
you will see a bluish residue or the surface will fell tacky.
NOTE:
Not all inks are composed of the same produces/elements
and therefore clean differently. Work in small areas. Do not
over-wet area to prevent spreading the stain.
